To buy or not to buy. That is the question.

Kitchenaid.

Yes or No?

If yes, what colour?

If no, why?

rosemary cookies and frozen cookie dough.

I've been converted.

Herb with cookies taste so fine, so so fine. Made a log of rosemary cookie in the afternoon and freeze the rest of the dough.

Another good idea is to freeze a few logs of cookie dough (of different flavours of course), so when there's company or cravings. Just slice a couple and bake. Freshly baked cookies anytime!

The dough keeps for a few months if kept frozen, the idea of it is fantastic.

Lemon thyme is next on the list, and perhaps a few other. But never ever lavender, its equivalent to putting perfume into your food. Yuck.

Sibelius Concerto in D Minor, op.47

Painful to watch but so good to listen. Was comparing Christian Ferras and Maxim Vengerov playing the same piece and I actually liked Vengerov's better. I'm not sure if the recording for Christian Ferras was really just bad (taking into account it was recorded in 1965) or he was just sloppy. Was disappointed, had high expectations. Vengerov was much cleaner and spot on. Just listen to it with your eyes close. I tend to follow the facial expression he has on his face.. how the muscles ache.

Arabelle Steinbacher was really really lovely and sweet, I got front row seats and was not disappointed! More about this later.

It's actually really simple to prepare, just make sure you get fresh ground meat from the wet market and not the frozen pre packs (They taste horrible!) Marinate the meat, prepare the dough and boil (3 times over, gotta follow this technique or you'll be having raw dumplings!)

Oh my, this is going to be a staple in my home and definitely during CNY Eve dinner!

Just the thing to test the newly purchased k200d, am not regretting the purchase. But I should have read the manual thoroughly first, had some problems with the settings.

Still, it gave some pretty good pictures. It was nice getting up that early and making our way down.

Breaking Bread - Brioche

Since I started making bread about a month ago, I've not bought commercially made bread. It's such a pleasure to make bread from scratch. Mixing the ingredients, kneading the dough, waiting for it to rise and baking it.

It's my therapy session with the psychologist~

Before baking

After baking

The oven is rather small, which explains the slightly burnt top. I tend to cover it slightly too late with aluminium foil.

Freshly baked bread fills your house with such a fantastic scent! I'm lucky that it fills my home at least once a week :)

(no subject)

One less idiot to deal with.

Yay

I can't agree more

One wonders how ppl really use the toilet. Urine stains on the seats, urine not in the bowl but the floor, strands of pubic hair. Toilets left un-flushed and filled with toilet paper and urine! Ewwwww~

Good toilet manners are such a rarity here and it reflects how uncouth one is. Gives me a phobia of touching door knobs.

And its not only the toilets, it applies to washing areas (Hand basins) too. Used tissue thrown into the sinks, hair and spit, spilled face powder and not to mention ppl who like to flick water onto the floor after washing their hands... which of course always ends up on my legs... Why can't they flick it towards the sink??? It's really inconsiderate! Just shows that their brain is located in the lower region of their body. (AWWWWWW *tilt head* poor things)

CK Tang is a good example on weekends. Just go observe. If only ppl clean up after themselves.

We saved two young cats from the street, about 6 weeks old, healthy (we went already to the doctor with them) and cute.

But we have already 2, so 4 is a bit much, anybody interested or know of someone interested let me know.

Free to pick up at our house.

Bonjour~

Made my first batch of macaroons! SUCCESS. tres bien. Whee~~~~

*skippity skip*

Dad loves it, he kept stealing them!

Used a very basic recipe, plain almond macaroons. Will definitely try more exotic flavours in future, pistachios.  Or maybe mocha. It's so easy~~~~~!

Horrible piping...

Not going to post the recipe this time (very basic), if you are interested just google it online. A good recipe bound to pop.

Reunion Dinner

 Tang Yuan

After dinner chats

Ingredients

Black sesame 150g

Sugar 1/2 cup

Butter 1/3 cup

Glutinous rice flour 2 1/2 cups

Ice cold water 1 1/2 cups

Food colouring (Red)

Red dates (8-10)

Lotus seed (1 tablespoon)

Wolfberries (1 tablespoon)

Rock sugar (According to taste)

Mature ginger (3 slices)

Sugar Melon (Dong Qua Tang)

Method

Roast sesame, cool and grind. Add sugar and butter, mix well. Set aside

Mix glutinous rice flour with ice cold water.

Wash all ingredient for the soup, about 2 1/2 cups of water. Boil and simmer.

Roll some of the rice flour, flatten and add some black sesame. Cover and roll to a ball. Be very very careful, the consistency of the rice flour is very difficult to work with. Not as easy as it looks. Next, boil the tang yuan, once they float they are ready. Place them in cold water once they are done (This stops the tang yuan from cooking further)

Place 4 to 6 tang yuans to a bowl, add the syrupy soup and serve!

Tang yuan, brings around reunion. Tuan yuan. Hope it does :)
Mom specifically requested for it this year, and instead of having the ones from the supermarket (My fault for being lazy to make them). Which always taste really bad, decided that its time for me to make my own tang yuan again and i iz glad i did. They seemed to like it, wasn't too sweet and the skin was soft and chewy. i love me tang yuans. Anything sweet and sticky, its my fave.

Dad prepared reunion dinner as usual, pork stew (kong bak), steamed fish, herbal chicken, fried big fat prawns, lotus root soup, abalone with mushrooms and spinach, nonya chap chye. The kong bak still stole the show, its always the best dish around. The prawns were really really really big, fat and juicy. The sauce was as usual fantastic. Slurp.

nice reunion we is hav!

Also opened a bottle of riesling, it was lovely.

Here's wishing all a good Ratty year :D good health and good fortune.
